Comparison
Wenly vs voicemail
Voicemail is free, familiar and already on your phone. It is also the reason a caller with a burst pipe moves on to the next name on the list. This page is about when voicemail is fine and when it is costing you jobs.

What voicemail publicly states
Every line below comes from the sources at the bottom of this page.
- Voicemail comes with most phone plans, so its price is effectively zero.
- A voicemail is an audio message. Nothing tells you whether it is urgent until you listen to it.
- A Harvard Business Review study of 1.25 million web leads at 42 US companies found that firms that tried to contact a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as firms that tried an hour later. It studied web leads in the 2010s, not phone calls to trades, so it shows direction rather than a number for your business.

Where each is stronger
Where voicemail is stronger
- It costs nothing and needs no setup.
- Everyone understands it, and nobody outside your company hears the call.
- For a low volume of calls that can wait a day, it does the job.
Where Wenly fits
- The caller gets an answer instead of a beep, so fewer of them move on.
- You get the details and the urgency, not a recording to sit through.
- On Done-for-you, Pro and Founding, a real person on our team reviews every lead.
Which one to choose
Choose voicemail if…
- Your calls are few and none of them are urgent.
- Your customers are patient and a callback the next morning is fine for them.
- The calculator on this page says missed calls cost you less than $29 a month.
Choose Wenly if…
- A missed call can cost you a job worth several hundred dollars or more.
- You take calls when you are on a ladder, under a sink or asleep.
- You want proof, in a weekly report, of what you would have missed.
If your callers are patient and few, keep voicemail. If one missed call can cost you a job, the question is only whether that happens more than once or twice a month. The calculator on this page does that math with your numbers, not ours.
The numbers
What does voicemail cost you?
Free voicemail costs whatever jobs callers take elsewhere. Put in your own numbers.
What are missed calls costing you?
The starting numbers are examples, not averages. Change them to match your business.
Lost to missed calls
You could be losing about $6,240 a month.
That is about $74,880 a year, from about 14 jobs a month.
8 calls a week × $450 × 40% × 4.33 weeks a month.
Wenly Starter is $99 a month. At your average job, winning back 1 job a month covers it.

Isn't voicemail good enough for most calls?
For calls that can wait, yes. The trouble is that you can't tell which calls can wait until the caller has already moved on. Wenly answers them all and flags the urgent ones.
Can I keep my voicemail as well?
Yes. If you forward only the calls you don't answer, your phone still rings first and voicemail stays as it is for anything that doesn't reach Wenly.
How much does a missed call cost?
It depends on your jobs. Calls missed per week times average job value times the share you'd win, times about 4.3 weeks, gives a monthly figure. The calculator on this page does it for you.
