Missed-call scenarios

Three calls electricians can't afford to miss

  1. Scenario 1

Half the house loses power at 9pm

A breaker keeps tripping and half the outlets are dead. The homeowner has a freezer full of food and a home office to run in the morning.

    Without an answer

Your phone is off for the evening. The caller tries two other electricians with 24-hour numbers and books whoever answers.

    With Wenly

Wenly asks what is not working, whether there is a burning smell or any sparks, and whether anyone relies on power for medical equipment. A routine outage comes to you as a lead. Anything else is marked urgent.

  2. Scenario 2

The panel is buzzing and there's a warm, burning smell

A homeowner walks past the panel and hears a buzz. There is a faint burning smell and the cover feels warm.

    Without an answer

Most people would not leave a voicemail about this. They would call the fire department or the next electrician. Either way, you miss the call.

    With Wenly

Wenly tells the caller to stay away from the panel and to call 911 if there is smoke, fire or a burning smell. It doesn't coach anyone through checking wiring. You get an urgent text so you know what happened.

  3. Scenario 3

An EV charger quote from someone comparing three electricians

A homeowner just bought an electric car and wants a charger installed. They call three electricians on their lunch break.

    Without an answer

It is a valuable job and a low-urgency call, so it goes to voicemail. The homeowner books whichever electrician calls back first.

    With Wenly

Wenly captures the address, the type of job and the best time to talk, and sends it as a new lead. You call back with the full picture instead of a two-second voicemail.

The call and the text

What the caller hears, and what you get

The caller hears your company's name and a short line saying the call is answered automatically and may be recorded. You get the lead as a text.

Example callAnswering for Brightline Electric
  1. Wenly

“Thanks for calling Brightline Electric. This call is answered automatically and may be recorded. How can we help?”

  2. Caller

“Half my outlets stopped working and the breaker keeps tripping.”

  3. Wenly

“I'm sorry about that. Do you smell anything burning, or see any sparks or smoke?”

  4. Caller

    “No, nothing like that.”

  5. Wenly

“Okay. What's the address, including ZIP?”

  • Whether there is a burning smell, sparks, smoke or a hot panel

  • Residential or commercial, and the best time for a visit

Urgent rules

Urgent calls and safety rules for electricians

We set these with you at setup, starting from the defaults for your trade. Wenly is not a substitute for 911. When anyone is in danger, callers are told to call 911.

  • Safety first

Sparks, smoke, a burning smell, a hot or buzzing panel, a downed power line, or someone shocked

The caller is told to stay away, get everyone out if there is smoke or fire, and call 911. Wenly doesn't coach anyone through checking or repairing wiring. It takes a number, ends the call, and you get an urgent text.

  • Urgent

A full outage that isn't the utility's, a main breaker that won't reset, or someone who relies on power for medical equipment

Marked urgent and sent to your on-call number if you have one. Otherwise you get an urgent text and a priority callback request.

Dimmers, new outlets, lighting, EV chargers and quotes are routine leads. Wenly never tells anyone to reset a breaker or open a panel: advice about live electrical work should come from a licensed electrician.

Questions electricians ask

What if a caller reports sparks, smoke or a burning smell?

Wenly tells them to stay away from the source, get everyone out if there is smoke or fire, and call 911. It doesn't coach anyone through checking wiring. You get an urgent text so you know the call happened.

Will it give troubleshooting advice?

No. It doesn't tell anyone to reset breakers or open a panel. It collects the details, flags the urgency and passes it to you. Advice about live electrical work should come from a licensed electrician.

Can it tell a utility outage from a real electrical problem?

It asks what is not working and whether there is any smell, spark or smoke. It doesn't diagnose. If a caller says the whole street is dark, that goes in your text and you can decide whether it's your job.

Can I set different rules for after hours?

Yes. We set your urgent rules and your after-hours policy at setup. For example, full outages can transfer to your on-call number while routine jobs reach you as a normal lead.

Does it book estimates?

On Starter and above it books into your calendar. On every plan it captures the caller's preferred time so your team can confirm. It never says a visit is booked unless the booking is confirmed.

How does the cost compare with missing calls?

Starter is $99 a month. At a $400 average job, one job you would have missed covers it. And if we don't catch at least 10 leads you'd have missed in your first 30 days, you don't pay.
