Call forwarding explained

How it works

When someone dials your number, your carrier checks whether forwarding is switched on. If it is, the carrier sends the call to the number you chose. The caller dials the same number either way, and nothing about their side changes.

Forward everything, or forward some

Unconditional forwarding sends every call to the other number and your phone never rings. Conditional forwarding sends only the calls that meet a condition: your line is busy, you don't answer, or your phone is off or out of coverage.

How to turn it on

On most mobile carriers it is a code you dial from the phone. Verizon publishes *72 followed by the number to forward every call, and *73 to turn it off. AT&T and T-Mobile use the standard GSM codes, such as **21* to forward every call and ##21# to cancel. Landlines and business phone systems usually have a setting in an online account.

Codes and fees differ by carrier and plan. Verizon, for example, says there is no monthly fee on most plans, and that forwarding to numbers outside the US isn't allowed.

Hear it answer. Then start free.

On business plans: If we don't catch at least 10 leads you'd have missed in your first 30 days, you don't pay.

Have it call you

Your phone rings. It answers as your business.
