10DLC
10DLC (10-digit long code) is the system US carriers use to register businesses that send text messages from ordinary local phone numbers.
10DLC explained
Why it exists
Carriers introduced it to cut spam text messages sent from local numbers. A business registers who it is, then registers what it will text about and how people agree to receive it. Traffic that isn't registered can be filtered or blocked.
What registration involves
Two steps, in general terms: registering the business (its identity), then registering each messaging program, called a campaign. A campaign describes the use case, shows sample messages, explains how people opt in and out, and links to a privacy policy and terms. Approval can take days to a couple of weeks.
Why it matters when you pick a service
Any service that texts on your behalf, whether lead alerts, follow-ups or reminders, depends on registration being in place. Ask a provider whether it is registered before you count on text features.
